I am Rev. James Ahenkora from Ghana, west Africa. I was born on April 4, 1976 in Accra, the capital city of Ghana to John (deceased) and Christiana Ahenkorah. I have five brothers and four sisters. I had my primary, high school, teacher training, university/seminary education/formation in Ghana. I was ordained on August 25, 2007 for the Archdiocese of Accra, Ghana. I served as an Assistant Pastor for six years in Ghana. The first three years were at Good Shepherd Parish and the other three years at Holy Family Parish all in the Archdiocese of Accra, Ghana.
In November 2013, I volunteered to be a fidei donum priest for the archdiocese of Kingston, Jamaica in the West Indies and served as pastor of Sacred Heart Parish and communities in Highgate, St. Mary, Jamaica. I came to the Diocese of Des Moines on October 4, 2016 and was assigned as Administrator and later Pastor of St. John, Greenfield and St. Patrick, Massena.
I love sports, especially soccer, volleyball, tennis and pingpong. I also love music and I play a few musical instruments. I come to St. Patrick to serve you and share with you the gift of the sacred priesthood. Permit me, to use this opportunity to commend our beloved Pastor Glen Wilwerding for the great work he has done for this great parish. Let us continue to pray for his healing at every Mass and also look forward to meeting my new family at St. Patrick soon. God bless! Fr. James
I have been pastor of St. Patrick parish since December 2012 and am familiar with Council Bluffs as it was my original assignment when I became a priest in June 2004. Since then I’ve spent one year in Mexico learning Spanish and did Hispanic ministry in Des Moines and Osceola for four years. Originally from the German Catholic immigrant colonies of Shelby County, I attended high school in Harlan and later graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. I enjoy music and incorporate it into the mass. Ultimately in my last years of college life and a few years later I felt God gently tugging on my heart to become a priest. So I entered Mundelein Seminary in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago and was ordained by Bishop Joseph Charron. Priesthood is a unique gift which has helped me see how God is truly working in people’s lives; and the Lord has give me the privilege of being part of that journey for others. Activities I particularly enjoy are teaching the Catholic faith, spiritual reading, and celebrating the sacraments.

I was born in New York and my family has also lived in Vermont and Maine. I joined the Air Force after high school and spend six years in the Air Force where I met my husband. We have two children and one grandchild. After 23 years, my husband retired from the Air Force and we moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa where my husband was born and raised.
My first day of work here at St. Patrick’s was May 1, 2000. I enjoy “ministering” in this role as Parish Secretary!
