Born and raised in Council Bluffs (4th generation), I am a graduate of Creighton Prep and Creighton University with a BSBA and MBA in accounting and am a Certified Public Accountant. Married to Susan Ternus of Omaha in 1966, we are the parents of seven children (six living), fifteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Twenty-five years in banking as CFO, for the last thirteen years, I’ve been self-employed as a part-time business and tax accountant. Baptized as a member of St. Patrick’s Church and member for the last forty-eight years, I served on the Parish Council and as a Lector, Eucharist Minister, and organist.
Ordained a Permanent Deacon in 2006, I’ve served St. Patrick’s as a Deacon, and for the last seven years, I’ve served as the Parish Business Manager. I was a prior member and Chair of the Diocesan Deacon Council, and Sue and I have served as members of the Deacon Formation team for the Diocese for the last six years.
Currently, I am the on-call chaplain for Mercy Hospital and also serve on the Board of Hospice of Southwest Iowa and All Care Health Center in Council Bluffs.
As of 2019, Deacon Tinley is retired as the Business Manager of St. Patrick Church but still performs his duties as Deacon.
