Women’s Book Study

The Saint Patrick Women’s Book Study was designed to build community and to foster friendships through reading of current Catholic or spiritual literature.  This endeavor was an outgrowth of the “Christ Renews His Parish” (CHRP) program; many of the women who are discussion leaders were involved in CRHP.  The book study, however, is open to all women of the parish.  Each session is 90 minutes long and opens and closes with prayer.  The hostess for that session serves a light refreshment.

“Why did I join Women’s Book Club? I just moved back to CB in October after our military moves. I wanted to get involved with women of St. Pat’s and my sister told me about book club. Since I enjoy reading, it seemed like a perfect fit! I thoroughly appreciated: each book that we read, gaining better insight into my faith, sharing stories with my group and getting to know each one more, and the fact that it was okay if I didn’t finish before we met. I am a busy working mom with 3 kids still at home. I highly encourage all the ladies of the parish to consider joining a book club group; we feed our souls with new friendships”

The past season 2015-2016 featured three book titles: Matthew Kelley’s Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, Jon Leonetti’s Mission of the Family, and Colleen Carroll Campbell’s My Sisters, the Saints. Some groups also read Pope Francis’s papal letter on the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

“Joining the Book Club has been enjoyable for me. Each book we’ve read has been interesting and thought-provoking. Getting to know more fellow parishioners has definitely been a plus. I feel that we have become friends along with getting closer to God”

~Cathy Maynard

The 2016-2017 session will feature four book titles for returning members. Starting in September, the first book will be Beautiful Mercy a collection of essays, followed by A Living Legacy by Pope Francis, Lisa Brenninkmeyer’s Walking with Purpose, and Life’s Greatest Lesson by Dr. Allen Hunt.

“I joined the Book Study group when it started. Our group of 8 to 10 ladies has great discussions with diverse opinions. The knowledge I have received from this study group has strengthened my faith and I have gained the friendships of fellow parishioners.”
